Frequently Asked Questions

While Dr. Kalos is not paneled with any insurance providers, Dr. Kalos offers monthly invoice statements that you may submit to your insurance provider for Out Of Network (OON) reimbursement for sessions.

To find out if your insurance provides Out Of Network reimbursement you should:

  • –Contact your insurance provider (as well as your partner’s insurance provider if coming in for couples therapy).
  • –Ask if your insurance reimburses for “Out Of Network individual/couples therapy with a licensed psychologist.” If so, ask how much they reimburse per session and for up to how many sessions you may be reimbursed.
  • –Ask if you are required to meet a deductible before you are reimbursed. If so, ask how much would you have to spend before you reach your deductible.
  • –Ask your provider how to submit invoice statements for reimbursement.

All new clients are highly encouraged to look into OON reimbursement before scheduling the first session.

Please make sure to let Dr. Kalos know as soon as possible if you plan to submit for OON reimbursement so that Dr. Kalos may be prepared to provide you with invoice statements in a timely manner.

Dr. Kalos charges a full private practice fee/rate for each 50-minute session. All new clients are encouraged to ask any questions that they may have about fees before scheduling the first appointment.

PsyD is the designation for a Doctorate in Psychology. What does this translate to for therapy? —Training matters! Contrary to the common phrase, “practice” does not “make perfect” when it comes to your mental health. Instead, “perfected practice makes perfect” because thorough training and experience enhance the quality of therapy substantially more than experience alone.

In my doctoral training I completed five years of intensive study in conjunction with four years of rigorous therapy training with close supervision. In order to obtain my license in psychology I completed an additional year of  intensive study combined with full-time therapy work and supervision to continue to enhance my clinical skills. My goal is to provide the highest caliber of therapy services.

Most masters and doctoral level mental health programs do not provide in-depth training in both relationship and sexual therapy training. Following licensure in psychology I pursued an additional 30-weeks of intensive training in relationship and sex therapy with two additional years of supervision by experts in the field. This advanced level of training prepared me to be able to help individuals and couples to address a wide range of complex challenges and work to improve their relational and sexual health.

The first phase of individual and relationship therapy involves an assessment period of 1 to 3 sessions. During the first sessions Dr. Kalos will ask you (and your partner) a number of questions about the concerns which led you to initiate therapy as well as your life, history, thoughts, feelings, and experiences. With this information Dr. Kalos will gain a clearer understanding of the goals you hope to achieve and the steps that we could take to work toward those goals.

Questions are encouraged! The assessment period is structured to help to answer two critical questions. Firstly, it is Dr. Kalos’ goal for you to be set up for success. If, following the assessment period, Dr. Kalos does not believe that the professional services offered will adequately support your goals, she will provide you with a referral to more appropriate resources. Secondly, the assessment period also provides you with an opportunity to determine if this therapy is a good fit for you. If for any reason at all you come to the conclusion that the therapy is not a good fit for you, do not hesitate to let Dr. Kalos know and, if desired, she will provide you with additional referral options.

My therapeutic style draws upon the strengths that you (and your partner) bring to therapy and challenges you to build beyond them. I additionally aim to provide a transparent approach, meaning that I will share with you what we are doing and why—there are no hidden interventions or agendas.

Therapy usually begins in the form of weekly 50-minute sessions. Depending on the circumstances (e.g., distance, health limitations) extended session times may be available.

Dr. Kalos’ role is to guide you (and your partner) in working toward the goals you set out while also continuously integrating your feedback as well as the significant events and changes that occur on a week to week  basis.

Therapy is a process that evolves along with the changes that you (and your partner) make.

Most individuals and couples meet with Dr. Kalos on a weekly basis for a minimum of two to three months. Many choose to continue to pursue therapy for a longer period of time if desired. Dr. Kalos openly invites communication throughout the therapeutic process to determine the frequency of sessions and goals for the conclusion of therapy.
