BIOSKETCH Dr. Alishia Kalos (pronouns: she/her/hers) serves as a bilingual (English/Spanish) Pennsylvania licensed psychologist and individual, relational and sex therapist certified by the American Association of Sex Educators, Councilors, and Therapists (AASECT). Her practice is founded on belief in the power of resilience and adaptability to surmount challenges and create the strongest version of ourselves and our relationships. She operates her private practice, Strongest Self Therapy, in center city Philadelphia. Dr. Kalos additionally is an educator for the postgraduate Systemic Sex Therapy program and clinician at the Council For Relationships. She conducts general comprehensive diagnostic assessment through her private practice as well as assessment for people convicted of sexual and relational violence offenses through the Joseph J. Peters Institute. Dr. Kalos serves on the board of directors for the Philadelphia Society of Clinical Psychologists (The Psychology Network). Her research, writing, and presentation interests include sexuality and sexual health, overcoming cancer and chronic illness and mindfulness-based strategies. Regarding her academic background, Dr. Kalos completed her Associate of Arts degree with honors at Montgomery County Community College. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in psychology at Bucknell University through the Bucknell Community College Scholars Program (BCCSP), a diversity initiative for high-achieving, low-income, students. Dr. Kalos obtained her Doctor of Psychology degree through La Salle University with a clinical focus on health psychology, anxiety disorders and assessment. She completed intensive post-graduate relationship and sex therapy training through the Council For Relationships Systemic Sex Therapy program. She additionally completed postgraduate training specific to postpartum anxiety and depression through the Postpartum Stress Center. Dr. Kalos specializes in addressing individual, relational, and sexual concerns related to anxiety, intimacy, communication, sexual functioning (e.g., desire/arousal/interest, erection or orgasm concerns, sexual pain), healing after infidelity, kink, “atypical” sexual interests, working with MAPs, ethical non-monogamy, LGBTQIA+ identity, postpartum concerns, separation, divorce, or mindful uncoupling, relational violence, and sexual behavior challenges. Dr. Kalos has extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Mindfulness–Based, Strengths-Based and Intersystems approaches to therapy. She also has experience utilizing Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Problem-Solving Therapy (PST), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She has devoted much of her research and clinical career to advocacy for Spanish-speaking and other underserved ethnic, gender and sexual identity populations.
